Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports - Golden Knights Goaltender Has Stepped Up In A Time Of Need

Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson has stepped up for the team at a time when they have struggled and faced serious injuries.

Thompson is playing in his third season with the Golden Knights and is once again putting up excellent numbers. In 28 games this season, Thompson has a .910 save percentage and a 2.63 goals-against average. Thompson has allowed two or fewer goals in four of his last five games. He's also won four of his previous five starts.

The Golden Knights had been going through a tough stretch of games, with injuries continuing to pile up. Adin Hill, the other Golden Knights goaltender, has been on the IR since December 21st. Jack Eichel, Shea Theodore, William Karlsson, Michael Amadio, William Carrier, and Ben Hutton outline the other Golden Knights on the IR.

Head Coach Bruce Cassidy has this to say about Thompson's play as of late:

"But I think he's more in control playing in between the posts," Cassidy said. "So a lot of saves tonight. No scene plays are hitting him as he's reacting, but he's in the net. You're going to make some saves because you're positionally sound."

The Golden Knights have called seven points back of the Vancouver Canucks for first place in the Pacific division and have also seen their lead over the Edmonton Oilers shrink to just six points with the 12-game win streak the Oilers are on. The Oilers also have four games in hand on the Golden Knights.

The team will need Logan Thompson to continue his strong play and, on some nights, steal a game for them like he's shown he's capable of. Hill leads the league in save percentage and goals-against-average and is expected back during the Golden Knights' four-game road trip that starts after Saturday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
