A 39-save performance by Thompson against the Winnipeg Jets has brought the Golden Knights back into third place in the Pacific Division.
The Jets went into the game on a four-game losing streak but threw everything they could at Thompson, he just had all the answers. 10 shots in the first period and 15 in both the second and third periods just wasn't enough to get it done. The Jets had five power play opportunities but failed on all five.
Thompson's five-game stretch has essentially saved the Golden Knights season. He's 4-0-0 in his last four starts with a .965SV% and a 1.00GAA.
"Good for Logan, he's been playing well and we need him. We need him to be good and he has been" says HC Bruce Cassidy.
The 27-year-old goaltender has allowed just one goal in each of his last five starts. He came in relief of Adin Hill who was injured against the Columbus Blue Jackets. With a 3-1 lead Thompson stopped eight of nine shots he faced in the third period.
Thompson outdueled Jordan Binnington against the St. Louis Blues in one of the Golden Knights' most critical games of the season. With the Blues breathing down the necks of the Golden Knights for the final wild-card spot, they couldn't afford to lose the game and Thompson made sure that they wouldn't.
This season hasn't always been great for the Canadian netminder. He's had ups and downs but he's found his game at the most important time. Hill has been injured twice this season and each time Thompson has stepped up. A lot of pressure is on Thompson right now with Hill injured and the team fighting for their playoff hopes every game, it's nice to see him rise to the occasion.
Thompson now has a 21-12-5 record with a .909SV%, 2.68GAA and one shutout this season.
The Golden Knights are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, heating up at the right time.
