Winnipeg has beaten the first-place Dallas Stars on Thursday.

The Winnipeg Jets have pulled into second place in the Central Division with a 3-0 shutout over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.

Backup Laurent Brossoit earned his third shutout of the season, while the Jets picked up their fifth-straight win and improved to 49-24-6 on the year.

Winnipeg scored once in each period, with Nikolaj Ehlers getting things going late in the first period. He scored his 24th of season off a setup play from Tyler Toffoli.

With Cole Perfetti out of the lineup as a healthy scratch on Thursday, his replacement David Gustafsson got right to work. He scored his third of the year midway through the second period, to give Winnipeg a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes of play.

Mark Scheifele put the finishing touches on the shutout performance with his 25th of the year into the empty net, sealing the deal for Winnipeg on its 3-0 win.

With the victory, the Jets pulled into a tie for second-place in the Central Division trailing none other than the Dallas Stars. Winnipeg and Colorado now sit at 104 points, but it is Winnipeg that owns the tiebreak between the two teams.

Brossoit turned aside all 24 shots he faced on the night, while Jake Oettinger made 21 saves on the 23 pucks fired his way by Winnipeg.

Winnipeg now takes on Colorado in its final road game of the season on Saturday afternoon. The game will have significant consequence in the Central Division playoff race, with each team having just three games remaining - including the Saturday afternoon showdown.

Winnipeg then returns home to face the Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks to wrap up the 82-game regular season.
