The Brantford Bulldogs returned to the number one spot of the OHL’s weekly power rankings after beating the Kingston Frontenacs 4-2 last Wednesday and then a dominant 7-2 win over North Bay on Saturday.
In their win over Kingston, the CHL USA Prospects Challenge captain, and potential top ten pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, Caleb Malhotra, put together another terrific performance. Malhotra was named the game’s first star after a two-point effort, including scoring the game-winner.
Against North Bay, he ironically wasn’t named one of the game’s three stars, despite recording three points. Once again, his goal proved to be the game-winner. Malhotra now has five game-winning goals on the season, sitting in a five-way tie for second in the league. It’s even more impressive when you factor in that he has scored only 13 goals. So, 38% of his goals this year have been game-winners.
With two goals and three assists in the two games, the OHL named the NHL draft top prospect the OHL Rookie of the Week.
Malhotra has now taken home Rookie of the Week honors three times this season. The son of former longtime NHL forward Manny Malhotra leads all rookies in scoring with 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points in 27 games. His +13 rating is the second-highest amongst rookies, also.
The 6-foot-2 centerman went 18/30 in the faceoff department last week, which is a significant improvement considering faceoffs have been one area where the top prospect has struggled (46.2% on the season).
With Malhotra committed to Boston University and expected to make the jump to the NCAA for the 2026-27 season, the 17-year-old is making the most of his time in the OH, and you can bet that Brantford hopes this won’t be a one-and-done season for the star centerman.
