NHL Central Scouting gave Guelph Storm forward Alex McLean a “W” grade in their preliminary rankings list for the 2026 NHL Draft. The second-year forward from Perth, Ontario, wanted to show those scouts that his letter grade should’ve been higher.
The Storm held a school day game last Wednesday, handing the Brampton Steelheads a 5-2 loss. Over the weekend, they went 1–1, outscoring their opponents 9-8 in the process. Through those three games, McLean was Guelph’s top performer, registering two goals and eight points with a +4 rating. He recorded a career-high four points in Guelph’s Friday night win over Saginaw, and the OHL took notice.
Week 12’s OHL Player of the Week goes to the draft-eligible forward.
McLean improves to six goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 25 games. He has set a career-high in assists and is three points shy of matching his production from his rookie season (23). Now that Jett Luchanko has been moved to the Brantford Bulldogs, there are more offensive opportunities, and McLean took advantage of that this past week.
For the Storm’s two weekend games, McLean was moved to the top line, playing alongside Leo Serlin and Charlie Paquette. With Serlin, Parker Snelgrove, and Jaakko Wycisk operating as the team’s top three centermen, it has allowed McLean to be moved up the lineup and play on the wing.
McLean is the first Storm player to receive OHL Player of the Week honors this season. He’s also the first draft-eligible player to earn the reward, not including 2006-born re-entry Alex Kostov.
Guelph has a tough matchup on Wednesday, as they cross the border to take on the Flint Firebirds. They host Sarnia on Friday night and then head to Sarnia for a 2 pm Sunday rematch.
