After the Saginaw Spirit took game five in overtime, they made the trip up north Sunday night for a chance to close out the series against the Soo Greyhounds.
6-foot-2 defenseman Josh Glavin made his 2024 OHL Playoffs debut for Saginaw as they had right winger Lincoln Moore exit the lineup and went with 11 forwards and 7 defensemen.
The Greyhounds had no lineup changes. Jack Beck returned to the Soo lineup for game five after missing seven straight games. Beck led the charge offensively in game six with a goal and two primary assists in what was a convincing win for the Soo, 5-0.
Jacob Frasca opened the scoring after finding the open ice in the slot and firing home his third of the playoffs with just six seconds left in the period.
Under five minutes into the second period, Christopher Brown dragged three Spirit defenders toward him on the boards which opened up the passing lane to Jack Beck coming down the middle for his second goal in two games, and a 2-0 lead for the Soo.
Shortly after, Beck made an excellent feed backdoor for Chicago Blackhawks prospect Gavin Hayes' first of two in the game. Hayes added another on the powerplay and Marco Mignosa capped off a four-goal second period for the home team.
The Greyhounds netminder Charlie Schenkel recorded his second shutout of the series, stopping all 24 Saginaw shots.
The top-ranked OHLer by NHL Central Scouting, Zayne Parekh was involved in a tussle in the second period and needed help off the ice. He did not return.
Saginaw's downfall in this game was their powerplay which went 0-for-5 and is now a staggering 3-for-27 in the series. Spirit defenseman James Guo late in the game swung his stick at Greyhounds forward Travis Hayes which appeared to clip him on the side of the head. Guo was assessed a five-minute major penalty on the play.
Game seven is on Tuesday in Saginaw at the Dow Event Center.
