Barrie has boosted it's physical presence with the acquisition of power forward Dylan Tsherna
The Barrie Colts have acquired forward Dylan Tsherna from the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2028 OHL Priority Selection.
In a statement following the trade, Colts Head Coach Dylan Smoskowitz called Tsherna a player who "fits the mold of a Barrie Colt" perfectly.
Dylan is a veteran player who plays the game with a high level of aggression and jam that was evident through last year’s playoffs. He fits the mold of a Barrie Colt perfectly, and will be relied upon to provide leadership and guidance to our younger players.
Tsherna, 19, has spent the past three seasons with the Bulldogs, appearing in 112 games with nine goals, 13 assists, & 22 points. Tsherna had four goals and seven points in 36 games last season for Brantford, along with two points in nine playoff games.
Tsherna was selected by the Bulldogs, while the team was still in Hamilton, in the second round of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, 34th overall.
In Tsherna, the Colts get a physical energy forward who can provide a high-effort presence in the team's bottom-six on the wing, but his game is largely about playing aggressively, which could limit his ice time to fourth line minutes.
The Colts add a depth forward to a right wing that will be losing Emil Hemming and Joe Salandra, and losing their physical rock in Gabriel Eliasson. Barrie also added on the right side with the signing of import forward Elias Matousek.
