On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars announced the signing of prospect Angus MacDonell to an entry-level, three-year contract for the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
The Brampton Steelheads forward has enjoyed a successful run over the last two and a half years with the franchise, becoming a staple top six forward who provides a scoring touch, grit, and solid 200-foot game.
Originally drafted by the Sarnia Sting 13th overall in the 2021 OHL draft, MacDonell was involved in a significant trade before the trade deadline during the 2022-23 season.
The Sting traded MacDonell and two fourth round picks for Luca Del Bel Belluz. On that same day, they traded their other star young forward Porter Martone. Two former Sting members now look to bring home a championship to the Steelheads organization this year.

MacDonell has recorded 96 goals and 77 assists for 173 points in 221 regular season games in his OHL career. He set a career high in goals (32), assists (30), and points (62) last season.
The Toronto, Ontario native forward missed all of November and most of December this season with an injury, but he's still seen a productive season, posting 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points in 40 games.

MacDonell joins his Steelheads teammate Finn Harding, who recently signed his entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Dallas Stars have hit it out of the park with a few of their draft selections from the OHL in recent years: Windsor Spitfires alumnus Wyatt Johnston and Mississauga Steelheads alumnus Thomas Harley.
Harley and Johnston were both standout first-round draft picks, while MacDonell has a considerable challenge ahead of him. Nevertheless, he possesses the traits of a reliable bottom-six NHL forward.
