Oshawa acquires a blueliner on the outskirts of the Knights roster for a pretty cheap price
Yet another trade as the opening weekend of the 2026-27 OHL season gets underway, as the Oshawa Generals have acquired blueliner Jackson Marthaler from the London Knights.
In return for the former USNTDP defender, London will receive Barrie's fourth-round pick in the 2030 OHL draft.
Marthaler, 18, signed with London this summer after playing the past two seasons with the NTDP. More of a defensive blueliner, he recorded four assists in 54 games with the U18s last season.
In Oshawa, the 6-foot-2 rearguard will step into a team situation that has much more need for his services. Looking to climb out of a rebuild in the new season, Marthaler will bring another layer of depth to the blue line.
This is the second defenseman the Generals have acquired from London in recent weeks, after trading for Linus Funck earlier in September.
In London's case, this is yet another trade for a team that has made a ton this preseason. With an extremely deep roster, roster spots were at a premium, and a trade this week for Jonathan Kapageridis meant someone was the odd man out.
This is the second trade the Knights have made on Friday morning, also sending Geno Carcone to the Brampton Steelheads, which opened up an overage spot.
