Guelph has dealt top pick Declan McNally to Barrie following his team holdout
The Guelph Storm have traded defenseman Declan McNally to the Barrie Colts in exchange for multiple draft picks, the team announced.
McNally was dealt from Guelph to Barrie in exchange for six picks, a second and third round pick in both 2028 and 2030, a 2029 fourth round pick, and a 2027 fifth.
Accoridng to Guelph, the Storm have received a compensatory first-round pick, eighth overall, in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection as part of the deal being completed.
McNally was dealt to the Colts just a day after it was announced by Guelph that McNally was not reporting to the Storm's training camp, choosing to hold out in a move that was viewed as likely being resolved through a trade.
The Storm have already built their defensive core, leaving McNally with a slim chance to make the roster out of camp for this upcoming season.
With Guelph hosting the Memorial Cup, other trades would further add murkiness to McNally's role in the depth chart. McNally will likely win a spot with Barrie for 2026-27.
McNally, 16, was selected by the Storm in the first round of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, seventh overall. The 6'6 left-shot defenseman had three goals and 18 points in 29 games for the Don Mills Flyers of the GTHL this past season.
