Dmitri Toporowski will join the defending Memorial Cup champions as an overager.
After a historic year capped off by a Memorial Cup, the Kitchener Rangers are undergoing an offseason full of changes to the roster.
The latest of those is the signing of overage defenseman Dmitri Toporowski, who has enjoyed quite the unique career path to get to this point.
Toporowski, 20, comes over after a year split between the ECHL, SPHL and NAHL. The majority of his games came with the SPHL's Quad City Storm, where he recorded 17 (8+9) points and 102 penalty minutes in 45 games.
The Shrewsbury, MA, born blueliner has had a lot of stops in his hockey career to date, including playing U16 AAA hockey in Boston, U18 Prep school hockey in the Canadian praries, two stops in the SJHL, and half a season with the WHL's Red Deer Rebels.
Rangers GM Mike McKenzie says in a press release the team is looking forward to the leadership, experience and stability to a Rangers defensive team that will look very different on the ice next season.
Toporowski is a two-way, physical blueliner that will come in with a unique amount of experience and help solidify a blue line that's losing the likes of Cameron Reid, Jared Woolley, Carson Campbell and Matthew Andonovski.
