London moves defender Jacob Xu as the former touted prospect looks for bigger minutes
The London Knights have dealt defenseman Jacob Xu to the Peterborough Petes in exchange for two picks, a 2028 fourth round pick and 2030 sixth.
Xu, 18, was seen as a potential high draft pick last season for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, but struggled to build on his promising play in the OJHL, scoring just a goal and 14 points in 59 games in the OHL in the 2025-26 season, going undrafted in the NHL Draft.
Xu was dealt in the blockbuster trade that sent him along with multiple draft picks from the Kitchener Rangers to London in exchange for Sam O'Reilly and Jared Woolley.
London has been clearing out their defensive pipeline jam after dealing Xu, having traded import defender Linus Funck to the Oshawa Generals last Thursday, a deal that allowed the Knights to bring in Anaheim Ducks first rounder Marcus Nordmark.
On his third OHL team in as many years, Xu will likely see bigger minutes in Peterborough, with a chance to prove himself with a fresh opportunity after a setback this past season.
Petes General Manager and VP of Hockey Operations Michael Oke said on the trade for Xu that the defenseman can be an asset for the club with his mix of size and mobility.
Jacob is a big, left handed, physical defenceman who moves very well. He’s a player that we took notice of during his U16 season ahead of the OHL draft and have watched closely during his time in the OHL. We believe that he will be a solid addition to our blueline as we prepare for next week’s home opener.
Twitter account 'OHL Scoops' first reported that Xu was expected to be dealt from London to Peterborough.
Peterborough begins their OHL season Thursday, September 17th at home against the Kingston Frontenacs. Xu will return to face his old club when Peterborough travels to London on November 22nd.
