The Ontario Hockey League has suspended London Knights defenseman Cam Allen Indefinitely following his involvement in an impaired driving accident on Feb. 8.
The Ontario Hockey League has announced that Cam Allen, a defenseman for the London Knights, has been suspended indefinitely due to his involvement in an impaired driving incident that occurred on Feb. 8.
Allen, 20, is facing five charges after fleeing the scene of a single-car collision while driving impaired.
The OHL released a statement saying, "The Ontario Hockey League today announced that London Knights player Cam Allen has been suspended pending the outcome of a league review into the events of February 8, 2025, when he was charged by the London Police Service with offenses related to impaired driving."
Cam Allen was selected by the Washington Capitals as a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Knights in December to strengthen the team's defense for what they hope will be another successful run to the OHL Finals.
The team will be without his services for the foreseeable future while the league conducts its review.
A similar legal situation arose last season with Oshawa Generals forward Connor Lockhart, who was suspended on Feb. 7, 2024, during an investigation by Durham Regional Police. However, the details surrounding Lockhart’s absence were less clear and more mysterious.
Zero details emerged regarding the investigation with Lockhart, and he returned to play on Feb. 17, 2024, ultimately serving an eight-game suspension. This instance is different because Lockhart was never charged and Allen is facing five counts.
A similar situation occurred in the QMJHL last season, in March, with Halifax Mooseheads forward and Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Jordan Dumais.
Dumais was charged with driving impaired by alcohol and driving impaired by alcohol and or drugs. The QMJHL suspended him for five games for violating the team and league's code of conduct.
Allen had been playing well with London, posting 17 points in 18 games since the trade.
The Toronto, Ontario native has signed his entry-level contract with the Capitals and will most likely move on to the professional ranks next season. Alas, he will have to make amends and pay the price for his inexcusable actions.
