As older brother Martin heads out the door, younger brother Alex steps in to keep the fun going. The Misiak family in Erie carries on.

On Thursday, the Erie Otters organization announced that they had signed Slovak forward Alex Misiak to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. The club had drafted the forward 32nd overall in the recent CHL Import Draft, and surely had help from older brother Martin in convincing him to come to the OHL.

Misiak, 18, bounced around during the 2024-25 season. He started the season back home in Slovakia in their senior league, scoring 7 points (5 goals, 2 assists) in 26 games. For a 17-year-old, that’s not too shabby.

However, the 6-foot forward made his way overseas to the USHL for the second half of the season, recording 18 points (7 goals, 11 assists) in 28 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks.

“We are very happy to welcome Alex to the Otters. We have followed Alex’s development over the past year and also came away impressed at the World U18s. Alex is a hard competitor who can get to tough areas when creating offense. We look forward to working with Alex as he continues his development,” said Erie Otters Director of Hockey Operations Scott Grieve.

The Malinovo, Slovakia, native represented his nation’s colors at the IIHF U18 World Championship, where he put up three assists in seven games. Misiak went through his first NHL Draft experience this past year and unfortunately did not get his name called at the draft. He will have added motivation heading into the 2025-26 season.

His older brother, Martin, was Erie’s first-overall pick in the 2023 CHL Import Draft. He was picked second overall the year before by Saginaw, but opted for half a season in Slovakia and the other half in the USHL.

Martin Misiak played two seasons for the Otters organization, recording 106 points (46 goals, 60 assists) in 120 games. Despite a second-round exit in the playoffs this past spring, he was impactful offensively, producing 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in 8 games.

Younger brother Alex commits to the OHL with the hope of impressing scouts and demonstrating that he is a viable candidate for the 2026 NHL Draft as an overage player. He was ranked 92nd among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting last year.

EliteProspects wrote the following on his player page:

“Misiak’s offensive game is mostly connective plays: Get open inside space, catch the puck, and distribute to the nearby open teammate. But he also shows some skills in flashes. He fires off the catch with power, sets up teammates in the slot after pulling the defence toward him, and weaves through traffic with crossovers.”
