The Ontario Hockey League will be front and center at the NHL draft once again this year. The OHL's leading scorer Michael Misa made history Friday night, Feb. 28.

The Saginaw Spirit made the seven-hour drive up north to frigid Sudbury for their second meeting against the Wolves in the last two weeks.

In their previous matchup, the reigning Memorial Cup champions secured a convincing 8-3 victory, led by their superstar captain, Michael Misa, who scored a hat trick and reached the 50-goal mark in the game. Additionally, San Jose Sharks prospect Igor Chernyshov had an impressive five-point performance.

Misa came into Friday night's game one point behind Ryan McDonough for the most points all-time in Saginaw history.

The Spirit opened the scoring 10:22 into the opening frame by none other than their superstar Misa.

Misa won't score many easier goals than that, taking Josh Glavin's point shot bounce on the backside of the net and depositing it for his 55th of the season, tying McDonough's record.

The Sudbury and Saginaw players must be close friends with the penalty box attendants at the Sudbury Community Arena, because both teams could not stay out of the box.

Subdury defenseman Henry Mews took a boarding penalty late in the second period, sending the OHL's second-ranked powerplay to the man advantage.

During the powerplay, Misa scored his second goal with a perfect one-timer, assisted by Chernyshov and Calgary Flames' top prospect Zayne Parekh, becoming the Spirit's all-time leader in franchise points.

Later in the game, Misa recorded an assist on Saginaw's seventh goal, completing a three-point performance, and helping his squad clinch a playoff berth to the OHL playoffs with a 7-2 win over the Wolves.

The Hockey News' draft expert Tony Ferrari recently released his mid-season rankings for the NHL draft and listed Michael Misa as the projected first-overall pick over Matthew Schaefer

Ferrari mentioned that it has turned into a two-horse race between Misa and Schaefer for the No. 1 rank, giving the edge to the former, describing him as the most intelligent and methodical player in this year's class.

Misa now holds the following records in Saginaw history:

Most points in franchise history - 249 points in 168 games
Most points in a single season - 2024-25, 118 points in 56 games (and counting)
Most goals in a single season - 2024-25, 56 goals in 56 games (and counting)

Misa is 12 goals away from tying Josh Shalla for most goals in franchise history and four assists — tied with Zayne Parekh — away from tying Vincent Trocheck for most assists.
