As training camps roll on and pre-season kicks into full gear, decision makers across the QMJHL are forced to make tough decisions regarding roster cuts ahead of the 2025-26 season.
In the past 24 hours, three first-round picks from the 2025 QMJHL draft have been cut from their respective club teams.
Clément Landry (Gatineau, 13th overall), Emrick Nolette-Robidoux (Sherbrooke, 16th) and Jayden Pominville (Rouyn-Noranda, 18th) have all been re-assigned and will not make the opening night roster for this season.

Landry, a 6-foot-3, 216 pound defenseman who played last season with the Laval-Montréal Rousseau Royal at the U18 AAA level, posting six (1+5) points in 42 regular season games, and eight points in 16 playoff games.
Nolette-Robidoux, a 6-foot tall winger, put up nearly a point per game in U18 AAA last season with the Saint-Hyacinthe Gaulois.
Pominville, the son of former Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabres forward Jason Pominville, is a 5-foot-9 centre who scored 40 (17+23) points in 42 U18 AAA games with the Collège Esther-Blondin Phénix.
With the changes to the CHL/NCAA agreement, training camps are more competitive than before, as players begin to ponder the CHL to NCAA pathway, which could be a reason for the uptick of first-rounders who see the cut.
Eagles Cut Import Hopeful Hutzinger
Roster cuts have begun to take place as the QMJHL pre-season carries on, and the Cape Breton Eagles have made one move that came as a bit of a surprise, cutting Austrian forward Konstantin Hutzinger on Saturday.
