Fresh off of a five-year QMJHL career, bookended by a visit to the Memorial Cup, former Rimouski Océanic star Jacob Mathieu has found a new home for the 2025-26 season.

The 5-foot-11 centreman has been confirmed as a member of the NCAA's Northeastern Huskies after captaining the Océanic the past two seasons.

Mathieu, 21, is coming off of a 41-goal, 68-point overage season, tied for fifth in the league in goals. He followed that up with a monstrous playoff run, finishing first in both goals (17) and points (31) through 23 playoff games.

The former 39th overall pick in the 2020 QMJHL draft amassed 203 points in 250 games across five seasons, all in Rimouski. Despite going undrafted to the NHL, Mathieu has caught the interest of several NHL teams, attending training camps with the Detroit Red Wings and Vegas Golden Knights.
