Matyas Melovsky's path to the NHL has been a long and winding one.

Passed on in the 2022 NHL draft, the Czech forward made the move from Ostrava to 'La Belle Province', joining the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. After yet another season without a call, Melovsky would finally get recognized by the NHL -- with the New Jersey Devils selecting him in the 6th round as a third-time draft entry.

Now, after an 83-point (26+57) overage season, Melovsky is just one step closer -- inking an AHL contract with the New Jersey Devils' affiliate, the Utica Comets for the 2025-26 season.

Melovsky recently wrapped up his QMJHL career, scoring 201 points (50+151) across 169 games over three seasons with Baie-Comeau.

Having just been drafted in 2024, this move gives the New Jersey Devils flexibility, as they'll have Melovsky in their system for next season, whether in the 'A' or the ECHL -- but won't take up one of their 50 contract slots. Of course, if they want to call up Melovsky, they'll still need to sign him to his entry-level contract -- which they'll have until next June to do so.
