NHL Central Scouting has released its preliminary watchlist for the 2025 NHL Draft.
Among the 24 players listed with an A rating are two QMJHLers in Blainville-Boisbriand right winger Justin Carbonneau and Moncton centerman Caleb Desnoyers.
An A rating indicates what Central Scouting deems a first round talent.
Desnoyers has 10 points (3+7) over his first seven games to start the season, missing a few games with a minor injury. Meanwhile, Carbonneau is at 16 points (7+9) over his first 11 games.
Both Carbonneau and Desnoyers are set to represent Team CHL at the 2024 CHL/USA Hockey Prospects Challenge.
If selected in the first round, they would be the first QMJHLers to get the honour since the 2022 NHL Draft.
The QMJHL has four B rated prospects -- listed as guys seen as prospective second or third round. These include:
Emile Guite was widely considered as a potential first round talent going into this season, especially in part due to his bombastic performance at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup -- winning gold. However, he's been a bit slow to start the season.
Meanwhile, Zachary Morin is a bit of a surprising addition given he had just signed into the QMJHL just two weeks ago after a disappointing run in the USHL.
The C-List -- guys considered as potential fourth and fifth rounders -- features 14 QMJHL prospects, such as:
This one features some interesting names.
Namely defenseman Alex Huang, goaltender Lucas Beckman and left winger Liam Kilfoil who were also part of the gold medal-winning Canadian Hlinka-Gretzky team.
There's also the additions of goaltender Gabriel D'Aigle who has seemed to struggle more with each passing season in Victoriaville. One has to wonder if teams will still choose a guy off of raw talent when the production just hasn't been there in years, or whether he'll get dealt mid-season and have the opportunity to get a fresh look in a better situation.
This list also features some notable risers such as Mateo Nobert and Nathan Quinn who have started to catch the attention of scouts.
The remaining players remain on the list are listed as W Rating, indicating them as a potential sixth or seventh round pick candidate. They are:
