Recap: Phoenix Take Big OT Win Over Eagles

Thanksgiving Day was a busy one in the QMJHL, with six games on tap across the league as the holiday weekend was capped off. 

One big game was an inter-conference clash between Cape Breton and Sherbrooke, where the home side came out on top to jump to first in the Western conference.

The Phoenix got this one going quickly, scoring shorthanded through Florent Houle to take an early lead 1:41 into the first period with a comical goal off a bad turnover from Lucas Beckman.

That goal would stand as the only one in the opening frame, and the home side took the lead into the first intermission.

In the second, the Eagles picked up the pace. Elias Schneider and Maxim Schafer scored 29 seconds apart, and that lead would carry through to the second intermission.

The lead would change again in the third, with Chad Bellemare and Louis-Alex Tremblay gave the hosts a 3-2 advantage, with the go-ahead goal coming with just under five minutes to go in the period. But, just under a minute later, Cape Breton would tie it up again, with the clutch man Reece Peitzsche levelling the score at three.

That even score held through to OT, where Jayden Plouffe played hero, putting his third of the season past Beckman to give the high-flying Phoenix a big victory at home.
