Carolina Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen had a tough start to the Eastern Conference Final against the Florida Panthers. In Game 1, he allowed five goals to the Panthers on 20 shots. He then gave up four goals on 16 shots in Game 2 before being pulled. Due to his struggles, Andersen was not the club's starter in Game 3.
However, after Kochetkov gave up six goals on 28 shots in Game 3 against the Panthers, the Hurricanes went back with Andersen between the pipes for Game 4. This ultimately proved to be the right decision, as Andersen bounced back in a big way in the must-win contest for Carolina.
Andersen was simply excellent for the Hurricanes in Game 4, as he recorded a 20-save shutout against the Panthers. With this, he looked far more like the star goalie he was for the Hurricanes during their first two series against the New Jersey Devils and then the Washington Capitals.
Andersen bouncing back came at a big time for the Hurricanes, as he played a significant role in avoiding elimination. The Hurricanes still have a long way to go to catch up to the Panthers, but if Andersen can build off his huge Game 4 start, it would help the Hurricanes' chances of making it a series again.
Even with his struggles at the beginning of the series, Andersen has put together some strong numbers this post-season. In 12 appearances, he has an 8-4 record, a 1.84 goals-against average, a .914 save percentage, and two shutouts.
