Beckham Edwards is staying home. The highly-touted 16-year-old phenom has signed an Ontario Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Sarnia Sting.
The left-shot forward, listed at 6-foot-tall and 168 pounds, initially signed a tender agreement with the Youngstown Phantoms in December 2023. However, the Sting selected Edwards in the third round, 46th overall, of the 2024 OHL Priority Draft.
“Beckham is a player our scouting staff watched dozens of times over the last 2 years," Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said in a statement. "He’s a local product, but chose to play at Little Caesars as he was pursuing the NCAA. He is one of the premier forwards in his age group, one that has size, can skate and is a gifted scorer. His play with Hockey Canada as a teammate with Alessandro Di Iorio shows he’s also someone who can work both ends of the ice.
“The Edward’s family is one of high integrity, this would not have been an easy decision for them. But we know our program is ready to take off, adding more skill and talent to the ’08 age group further solidifies our progression back to the top of the Western Conference. We welcome Beckham and the Edward’s family to Sarnia.”
Edwards skated with the Little Caesars 15U team during the 2023-24 season, where he put up crazy numbers. The forward tallied 60 goals and 37 assists in 64 games, making his 97 points the most on the roster.
He participated in the Phantoms' main camp earlier this summer prior to making his decision. Edwards is expected to be one of the top prospects eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft.
