The Medicine Hat Tigers wrap up their round-robin on Tuesday when they take on the London Knights. With both the Tigers and Knights currently sitting at 2-0, this game will determine who advances to the Memorial Cup Final and which team has to play in the semi-final. Ultimately, this should be an exciting game, as the WHL and OHL champions clash at the 2025 Memorial Cup.
Tuesday's matchup features 12 players who have already hit the scoresheet twice in this tournament. Medicine Hat is led by Gavin McKenna, Oasiz Wiesblatt and Ryder Ritchie, who all have four points, while London's Easton Cowan is the fourth member of the four-point club at this year's tournament. Just like the regular season, the leaders of the Tigers and Knights are stepping up and have put on a show so far in the tournament.
For Medicine Hat, one key to success will be to keep their power play hot. So far, the Tigers are three for eight with the man advantage and have cashed in during each of their first two games. With Tuesday potentially being a high-scoring match, whoever wins the special teams battle could be the one headed to the championship game.
Harrison Meneghin:
If Medicine Hat is going to win this game, they need a massive performance from goaltender Harrison Meneghin. After a tough first game, the WHL Playoffs MVP bounced back in a big way on Monday, allowing one goal on 22 shots versus the Moncton Wildcats. If Meneghin can stand his ground and keep London under two goals, it should be enough to power the Tigers to a perfect round-robin record.
Austin Elliott:
On the other side will be a familiar face, as Austin Elliott is London's projected starter. Before moving to the OHL, Elliott spent two seasons with the Saskatoon Blades, where he posted a 58-14-5 during the regular season. Ultimately, Elliott is on a special run and will be keen to send his old WHL rival to the semi-final.
