Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brayden Yager was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins 14th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
After a successful 2023-24 season, Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brayden Yager has signed his entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Initially drafted 14th overall in 2023, Yager is the third WHLer this month to sign with Pittsburgh, following Tanner Howe and Harrison Brunicke. Yager is the reigning CHL Sportsman of the Year and has been named WHL's Most Sportsmanlike Player for the last two seasons.
After recording 95 points in 57 regular season games, Yager helped Moose Jaw capture their first Ed Chynoweth Cup in franchise history. Yager finished third on in the WHL during the postseason with 27 points and also recorded at least one point in all four games during the WHL Final. As for the Memorial Cup, Yager finished with six points in four games, which included scoring the Warriors goal of the tournament.
There is a chance that Yager may not be back in the WHL at the start of the season. The Penguins do have some spots available on their roster, which could lead to an extended look during the preseason. If returned, Yager is once again projected to play for Canada at the World Juniors while also being a candidate for WHL Player of the Year.
