Everett Silvertips Set To Select First Overall In The 2024 WHL Prospects Draft

The 2024 WHL Prospects Draft Lottery is complete, with the Everett Silvertips winning the right to select first overall. Everett acquired this pick at the 2023 WHL Trade Deadline when they moved Olen Zellweger and Ryan Hofer to the Kamloops Blazers for ten draft picks and four players. The Blazers finished at the bottom of the WHL standings this season after finishing the year with a 20-42-3-3 record.

The big winners of the day were the Prince Albert Raiders, who jumped from fourth to second. This was originally the Seattle Thunderbirds pick, which was traded to the Raiders as part of the Nolan Allan trade. This is the second consecutive season Prince Albert will pick second, after selecting first and second in last year's draft.

The WHL also announced that the Regina Pats had won first overall in this U.S. Priority Draft. Players eligible for the 2024 WHL U.S. Priority Draft are 2009-born players who reside in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. This marks the first time the Pats will hold the first overall pick for this draft.
