On Saturday, the Minnesota Wild announced that they had signed Prince George Cougars' forward Riley Heidt to a three-year, entry-level contract. This is an early birthday present for Heidt, who will turn 19 on March 25. Heading into the final game of the regular season, Heidt has recorded 114 points in 64 games, which is the second most in franchise history behind teammate Zac Funk, who currently sits with 121.

Heidt has had an extraordinary career with the Cougars so far. He is the franchise's all-time leader in assists and points while also sitting 11th in goals. Heidt has also helped Prince George capture their second B.C. Division title, as well as their first 100-point season in franchise history.

If Hedit returns to the Cougars next season, he will have a chance to become the 28th player since 2000-01 to record 300 points in their career. Currently with 195 assists, Heidt could also become the 12th player to hit 200 assists this century. He will also be a player to watch for Team Canada's 2025 World Juniors team. One of the best playmakers in the league, he has the potential to be one of the steals from the 2023 NHL Draft.
