Saturday morning sees two Tigers trades take place, the first of which being forward Shane Smith heading to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for 2004-born goaltender Harrison Meneghin.

Smith, a 19-year-old, has spent his entire WHL career with the Tigers, logging 85 points over 143 career games.

"We wish Shane all the best and thank him for his time in Medicine Hat.” says General Manager and Head Coach Willie Desjardins. “He (Shane) has been a big part of our organization and we’re saddened to lose a player of his skill and character. The problem is when you want to get something good you have to give up something good."

In return comes Harrison Meneghin, a prospect of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The South Surrey native posted a 2.59 goals against average and a .919 save percentage over 53 games in tbe 2023-24 campaign.

“We felt Meneghin is one of the top 3 goaltenders in the league and that we needed his presence to make a good playoff run." Desjardins added.

In a separate move, Medicine Hat sends 2004-born forward Brayden Boehm to the Victoria Royals in exchange for a 2026 3rd round pick and a conditional 2027 5th round pick. This allows the Tigers to remain at the limit of three overage players for the season.

Boehm, like now-former teammate Smith, has spent his entire career with Medicine Hat: 70 points over 154 games. The Nanaimo, B.C. native joined the team during the shortened 2020-21 campaign and hasn't looked back.

“Brayden was a big part of our team and we really appreciate his work ethic and speed.” says General Manager and Head Coach Willie Desjardins. “We moved him to Victoria where we can be closer to family. We wish Brayden all the best and thank him for his time in Medicine Hat.”
