Following a 7-6 overtime win on Wednesday night for the Regina Pats, 15-year-old phenom Maddox Schultz made history, becoming the youngest player in Pats history to record a hat trick. In doing so, he surpassed the previous marks set by legendary alumni like Connor Bedard and Jeff Friesen.
Schultz, the first-overall pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, chose the biggest stage to have his "coming out party." His three goals weren't just stat markers; they were the backbone of a massive Regina comeback.
Early in the second period, Schultz showcased his speed, beating a Blades defender before tucking a backhand-forehand move past goaltender Evan Gardner. With the Pats trailing 6-5 and just 18 seconds remaining in regulation, Schultz buried a power-play one-timer. Just 1:03 into the extra frame, Schultz capped off the night with a brilliant individual effort, driving the net and roofing the winner.
Schultz has now tallied seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 20 games this season.
The victory moves the Pats (22-26-5) within one point of the Red Deer Rebels for the eighth and final playoff spot.
"You forget he’s 15 when you see him out there in the final minute," said Pats veteran Caden Brown, who also recorded a hat trick in the win. "He wants the puck in the big moments. That’s something you can’t coach."
