Welcome to THN's "WHL Standouts From The Week" article. In this weekly column, we highlight one player from each division who impressed over the last week. Here is a look at the four standouts from week five.
Cameron Schmidt- Vancouver Giants
Cameron Schmidt continued his hot start to the season, scoring three goals and adding three assists in his three games this week. The WHL's leading goal scorer also had ten shots and was a dynamic force over the last seven days. On pace for a casual 74 goals this year, Schmidt looks unstoppable early on this season.
Carter Yakemchuk- Calgary Hitmen
Welcome back Carter Yakemchuk. The Ottawa Senators prospect had a week to remember, recording three goals and three assists in six games. The defender also had 17 shots, including seven against the Prince George Cougars. A candidate for Defenceman of the Year, Yakemchuk could easily hit the 30-goal mark for the second straight season.
Clarke Caswell- Swift Current Broncos
Clarke Caswell stepped up in a major way this week, recording a goal and five assists in two weeks. He also had 13 shots on goal, which featured a ten-shot night against the Moose Jaw Warriors. If Caswell can continue this strong start, he could become a draft-day steal for the Seattle Kraken.
Chase Harrington- Spokane Chiefs
Chase Harrington put forward some strong performances for the Spokane Chiefs this past week. In three games, he had two goals, an assist and 14 shots on goal. Now with ten points in 12 games, Harrington is fitting in quite well down in Spokane this year.
