Steve Hamilton joins the Everett Silvertips after six years with the Calgary Hitmen.
The Everett Silvertips have their new bench boss, hiring Steven Hamilton as the sixth head coach in franchise history. Hamilton, who has been a coach in the WHL since 2010, spent the last six seasons as head coach of the Calgary Hitmen. Hamilton also spent time with the Edmonton Oil Kings as both an associate and head coach and has been behind the bench for Team Canada at multiple tournaments.
In a statement, Hamilton wrote, "I’ve always wanted our teams to be extremely hard-working and hard to play against. I believe in being a team that plays with a lot of pressure on the puck. Everett has done an excellent job of putting together a roster of players that are excellent with and without the puck. Now it’s just a matter of tweaking and building and staying with the foundation. I really believe, in my past experiences, Everett is a really hard team to play against. I’m excited to be able to work with a group like that."
Hamilton takes over from Dennis Williams, who had been with Everett since 2017. Williams, who was the head coach and GM, left the organization to take the head coaching job with Bowling Green State University. Everett is coming off a 95-point season, which saw them make it to the Western Conference Semifinal last season.
For the Silvertips next season, Hamilton inherits a team with a ton of talent. Star players Julius Miettinen, Tarin Smith, Kaden Hammell, and Dominik Rymon are projected to return, while first-overall pick and exceptional player Landon Dupont should play a significant role on the team once he signs. Everett kicks off its season on September 21 versus the Vancouver Giants.
