As part of its 50th anniversary, the CHL released the Top 50 Players of the Last 50 Years. In that list, features 13 legendary WHL alumni.
The Kamloops Blazers and Kelowna Rockets are heavily represented, underscoring their reputations as NHL factories.
Scott Niedermayer, Jarome Iginla, and Mark Recchi, legends of the Blazers, all earned spots. While Leon Draisaitl and Shea Weber represented the Rockets, both players led their respective groups to WHL Championships.
Other players that earnred spots were former Regina Pats captain Connor Bedard, who recorded 271 points in 134 WHL games and former Tri-City Americans goaltender Carey Price, who was one of six goalies named to the Top-50 list.
Decades earlier, Ray Ferraro and Brian Propp set bars that few have ever touched. Ferraro’s 108-goal season with the Brandon Wheat Kings in 1983-84 remains a legendary feat, along with Propp’s 194-point season in 1978-79.
Few players could change the complexion of a game as quickly as Joe Sakic and Mike Modano. Sakic’s 160-point season with the Swift Current Broncos in 1987-88 remains a benchmark for WHL excellence.
The full list includes Connor Bedard, Leon Draisaitl, Ray Ferraro, Grant Fuhr, Jarome Iginla, Mike Modano, Cam Neely, Scott Niedermayer, Carey Price, Brian Propp, Mark Reechi, Joe Sakic and Shea Weber.
With the 50 names confirmed, the CHL is now turning the power over to the fans. From February 10 to March 10, fans can visit the official CHL website to rank their Top 10. The final, ranked "No. 1 to 50" list will be unveiled later this spring ahead of the 2026 Memorial Cup in Kelowna.
