With a little outside help, the Brandon Wheat Kings and Edmonton Oil Kings have punched their ticket to the 2025 WHL playoffs on the same night.
Friday night was a big one, as Brandon visited the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a potential post-season preview. Brayden Edwards opened the scoring for the Hurricanes, and Caleb Hadland tied things up shortly after. Following that, Caden Price and Logan Wormald would add one each and that's how the game would sit after the first period; subsequently, the game ended by that same 3-1 score.
Heading north, Edmonton played host to the Kelowna Rockets- their final Western conference matchup of the season. After an eventful first period that ended in a 3-3 tie, including a pair of Jakub Stancl points, the Oil Kings exploded in the final frame for three goals-Roan Woodward completing the hat trick-and taking a 6-3 final.
With both teams not quite in the mix yet, a big 7-1 victory by the Medicine Hat Tigers over the Red Deer Rebels pushed both clubs over the top.
