The WHL is set to play a significant role in this year's 2024 NHL Draft. 57 players were included on NHL Central Scouting's final rankings, with a handful expected to be drafted in the first round. Today's draft profile is of Edmonton Oil Kings' Adam Jecho, who enters the draft as the 22nd-ranked North American Skater.

There are very few forwards in this draft like Jecho. Listed at 6'5", 201 pounds, he has a cannon of a shot and can beat goaltenders from all over the ice. Now that he has had a year to adjust to life in the WHL, he has the potential to be one of the top goal-scorers in the league next season and a must-watch prospect whenever the Oil Kings are on the road.

When it comes to Jecho's game, his shot is his biggest strength. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a wrist or slapshot; Jecho is able to get a ton of momentum behind his shot, making it difficult for goaltenders to track. Ultimately, Jecho is at his best when he is getting the puck on the net, as his shot can also create rebounds for teammates to jump on.

As for his defensive game, Jecho got better as the season progressed. He started to use his size more often and became better at creating turnovers. Jecho showed an ability to find open teammates on the rush, electing to make safe passes out of the zone rather than carrying the puck and risking a turnover.

The next step in Jecho's development will be working on his overall skating. While he can generate speed, Jecho needs to work on his quickness as well as his acceleration. If he can become a better skater while utilizing his size more often, he will be hard to slow down at both the junior and pro levels.

Jecho should hear his name called in the second round of this year's draft. NHL teams love to draft forwards with size and skill, which is precisely what Jecho can bring to any organization. While he still has room to develop, he has the potential to be a middle-six winger at the NHL level if developed properly.
