The WHL is set to play a big role in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Leading up to the draft, we at The Hockey News will be profiling some of the players who are projected to hear their names called at the end of June. Today's prospect is Brandon Gorzynski, who plays for the Calgary Hitmen.
Gorzynski had a successful second season in the WHL. He increased his point production for nine to 42 and potted 17 goals in 68 games. Gorzynski also had a strong post-season, recording eight points over 11 games.
Listed at 6'2", 181 lbs, Gorzynski understands how to use his size to his advantage. He is hard to knock off the puck, and often leans on puck carriers in order to create turnovers. Gorzynski also never misses an opportunity to finish a check, as he has been known to throw some massive hits along the boards.
In the offensive zone is where Gorzynski thrives. He is a shoot-first player and rarely passes up an opportunity to get pucks on net. Gorzynski also understands where he needs to be in order to get quality shots off, which is why he is mostly found either in the slot or near the crease.
The next step in Gorzynski's developed will be an improved transition game. On the rush, he is often deployed as the player who chases dump in, rather than carrying the puck into the offensive zone. If Gorzynski can become a more consistent play driver, it will add another dimension to his game.
Based on mock drafts, Gorzynski is projected to be drafted either in the second or third round. He has good size, decent speed and a high motor, which are attributes teams love to add to their prospect pool. In the end, he is an intriguing prospect who has the tool needed to have a successful pro career.
