The WHL is set to play a big role in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Leading up to the draft, we at The Hockey News will be profiling some of the players who are projected to hear their names called at the end of June. Today's prospect is Joshua Ravensbergen, who plays for the Prince George Cougars.
Ravensbergen is projected to be one of the first goaltenders selected in this year's draft. He is coming off a 33-win season and led the Cougars to the 2024 WHL Western Final. Ravensbergen is also expected to be one of Canada's goaltenders at next year's World Juniors, as he was invited to the Summer Showcase in 2024.
Listed at 6'5", Ravensbergen size allows him to make saves other goaltenders can't. He has good lateral movement, and is very difficult to beat down low. Ravensbergen also has good rebound control, as he is able to direct shots to the boards rather than back up to middle.
It is also very difficult to beat Ravensbergen up high. He can track pucks well, and has been known to make sensational glove saves. Ravensbergen is also good with his blocker and understands when to cover the puck in order to slow his oppositions momentum.
The next step in Ravensbergen's development will be tracking shots from distance through screens. When he did struggle this season, it generally came when opposing players crashed the crease and created chaos in front of him. If Ravensbergen is going to have a successful career at the pro level, he needs to work on tracking pucks while he is battling through screens.
Most mock drafts have Ravensbergen being selected in the late first round. He has a lot of potential, which is why he is the number one North American goaltender according to NHL Central Scouting. Ultimately, he is a can't miss prospect who has the potential to have a long and successful pro career.
