Welcome to this edition of the 2025 WHL Prospect Pools. Throughout the 2025 off-season, we will be taking a look at current or recently graduated WHLers who have either been drafted or signed by NHL clubs. Today's organization is the Seattle Kraken, which has eight WHLers in its prospect pool.
The Kraken have done a great job of acquiring current and former WHLers over the past few years. In 2023, they drafted Prince Albert Raiders defenceman Lukas Dragicevic, Lethbridge Hurricanes defenceman Caden Price, and Everett Silvertips defenceman Kaden Hammell, while in 2024, they added Spokane Chiefs forward Berkly Catton, Red Deer Rebels forward Ollie Josephson and Silvertips forward Julius Miettinen. As for this year, they drafted Edmonton Oil Kings defenceman Blake Fiddler, while in 2022, Seattle selected Portland Winterhawks defender Tyson Jugnauth, who was named Defenceman of the Year in the WHL for the 2024-25 season.
Starting with Jugnauth, he was a point machine last year. The 21-year-old recorded 89 points in 65 games before posting 33 points in 18 playoff games. Listed at 5'11", 170 lbs, Jugnauth has signed his ELC and will be playing in the AHL next season.
Up next is Dragicevic, who once again was over a point per game last year. The 20-year-old scored 18 goals while recording 70 points in 66 games during his first season with Prince Albert. Listed at 6'2", 196 lbs, there is a good chance that Dragicevic makes the jump to the pro level in 2025-26.
The second defenceman drafted by the Kraken in 2023 was Price. The 19-year-old spent the season split between Lethbridge and the Kelowna Rockets, recording 43 points in 57 games. Listed at 6'1", 190 lbs, Price was also part of Canada's World Juniors team in 2025.
As for the third player from the 2023 class, that would be Hammell from Everett. The 20-year-old wore the "C" for the Silvertips this year, recording 38 points in 59 games. Listed at 6'1", 187 lbs, Hammell will be headed to the AHL next season.
Moving on to the 2024 class, the Kraken jumped at the opportunity to select Catton eighth overall. The 19-year-old had 109 points in 57 games before recording 42 in 20 playoff games. Listed at 5'10' 174 lbs, Catton will be getting a trial at the NHL level to start next year.
A few rounds later, Seattle selected Josephson out of Red Deer. The 19-year-old was the Rebels captain this season, recording 35 points in 48 games. Listed at 6'0", 187 lbs, next season, Josephson will be headed to the NCAA as he has committed to the University of North Dakota.
The third player drafted in 2024 was Miettinen. The 19-year-old recorded 39 points in 36 games and was part of Finland's World Juniors team in 2025. Listed at 6'4", 207 lbs, Miettinen can return to the WHL next season.
Last but certainty not least is Fiddler, who was drafted this past June. The 18-year-old recorded 33 points in 64 games and was part of Team USA at the 2025 U18s. Listed at 6'5", 220 lbs, Fiddler is set to play a significant role for Edmonton this season.
