The third annual Ronin Sharma Memorial Tournament, which will be held this weekend, will feature current and former WHL Stars. The tournament honours former BCHLer Ronin Sharma, who passed away in 2021. After his passing, the Ronin Sharma Foundation was established to honour his legacy by helping others achieve their dreams through fundraising, bursaries, scholarships, and additional aid.
The annual tournament will be held this year at Planet ICE Coquitlam in Coquitlam, BC, and will feature both past and present WHL Stars. Some players who have participated in the past include Buffalo Sabres' Zach Benson, San Jose Sharks' Luca Cagnoni and Tampa Bay Lightnings' Harrison Meneghin. This year's tournament is set to host some of the same players as well as other NHL prospects.
The event, scheduled for July 19 to July 21, will feature five men's divisions and one women's division. There will also be a 50/50 and a raffle, which will feature over 17 baskets/prizes. Lastly, this year's tournament will also feature a free camp for Minor Hockey players aged 10-15.
Entry to watch the tournament is by donation, with all the proceeds going towards the foundation. Each team will play at least four games, with each division's playoffs occurring on Saturday and Sunday. For more information and to donate, please visit the tournament and foundations website here.
