A series looking back at the junior careers of now-NHL talent.

As part of a new series on THN, we decided to reflect on a different player every week and give a background as to how they made their mark on the WHL and completed their journey to the pros. Staying in the (NHL) Eastern Conference is Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson, who recently signed a massive six-year, $35.10 million extension.

    WHL career at a glance:

    4 seasons
    122 games played
    3.26 goals against average
    .905 save percentage

Before he was tending the net in the NHL, Thompson had a strong career in the WHL. Initially drafted 122nd overall by the Brandon Wheat Kings in 2012, Thompson played almost 130 regular season and playoff games during his WHL career. With 63 career regular season wins, he currently sits tied for sixth in franchise history and was part of the 2016 team that made it to the Memorial Cup.

After his WHL career concluded, Thompson went the USports route, joining Brock University. He would leave USports after one season and made his pro debut in 2019 with the ECHL's Adirondack Thunder. After one more season in the ECHL, Thompson was promoted to the AHL full-time and made his NHL debut with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020.

Thompson had a very successful career with Vegas. He was part of Canada's World Championship team in 2022 and won a Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in 2023. Over his 103-game career in Vegas, Thompson posted a 56-32-11 record and a .912 save percentage.

This season, Thompson is thriving with Washington. He has posted a record of 23-2-3 and is in the conversation for the Vezina Trophy. Thanks to Thompson's play, the Capitals have one of the best records in the NHL and are considered Stanley Cup contenders this season.
