Sini Karjalainen finished the season with the Vancouver Goldeneyes and was slated to attend camp with the team again this season. Now the Finnish Olympian will miss the next 9-12 months after tearing her ACL while playing in Switzerland.
Sini Karjalainen ended the 2025-26 season on the Vancouver Goldeneyes' blueline, and was set to return to training camp with the Goldeneyes this season. Karjalainen is now out for the season.
After injuries to their blueline, Karjalainen signed a short term contract with EV Zug to play prior to the World Championships and PWHL training camps. She suffered a torn ACL facing HC Fribourg-Gottéron on the weekend before undergoing surgery on her knee on Tuesday according to EV Zug's announcement.
Karjalainen had a goal and an assist got Zug in the first three games of PostFinance Women's League action.
Karjalainen, 27, played two games to close out the season with the Goldeneyes after finishing her season with Skelleftea in the SDHL. She also represented Finland at the 2026 Olympics and played for Finland at the first stop of the Women's Euro Hockey Tour, and had just been named to Finland's roster for the upcoming October stop on the tour before her injury.
According to EV Zug, Karjalainen is expected to miss the next 9-12 months, which puts her out for the entirety of the 2026-27 PWHL season, as well as the European and international seasons.
