Lexie Adzija discusses her choice to sign with the Metropolitan Riveters, including the opportunity for personal, and more organizational growth.
After signing her first professional contract with the PHF's Metropolitan Riveters, St. Thomas, Ontario's Lexie Adzija, is living her dream.
"I never thought, especially when I was younger, I never thought I'd have the opportunity to play professional women's hockey and to make money from hockey," Adzija said. "To be able to do that and to sign the contract and know that I'm going to be playing in a league next year that's growing where I can develop and that I can work as a hockey player, it's something I never thought I'd be able to do, but I'm so excited."
Adzija signed a one-year, $60,000 contract with the Riveters after completing a five season NCAA career at Quinnipiac University. Last season she captained the Bobcats scoring Adzija 11 goals and 16 points in 26 games. She also skated for Canada last summer as part of the Collegiate Series against Team USA.
For Adzija, the chance to play for the Metropolitan Riveters in particular, with the group of returning players, NCAA signees, and incoming veterans felt like the perfect fit. She's excited to play at American Dream, where the Riveters moved last year, and to get started with her new team.
"I wanted to go to a program that was really creating change and looking to grow," said Adzija. "Even just seeing their signing with American Dream last season, then this season shows the growth they've had, and then the players they've been able to recruit."
Adzija is ready to take the next step in her career, and to contribute to a Riveters roster that has welcomed several new players this offseason including Noora Raty, Susanna Tapani, Kaleigh Fratkin, Olivia Zufato, Emma Seitz, Noemi Neubauerova, and Lauren Dabrowski.
