    The Detroit Red Wings announced they have assigned forward Austin Watson and defenseman Justin Holl to their AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins. 

    Holl has played in two games for the Red Wings and recorded a primary assist against the New York Rangers.

    Watson played one game for the Red Wings and went pointless. He has earned three assists in two games with the Griffins. 

    An Ann Arbor, MI, native Watson spent last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning and recorded four points in 33 games. He has 135 points in 236 career AHL games. 

    The 32-year-old Holl recorded five points in 38 games with Detroit last season. He has 68 points in 194 career AHL games, he won the 2018 Calder Cup with the Toronto Marlies. 

    With Christian Fischer and Jeff Petry day-to-day with injuries both Watson and Holl could find their way back into the Red Wings lineup soon.
