The salary cap is rising over the next several years. One of the nice things about the conclusion of the regular season is that it means that money no longer matters for this year.

This is also where we discuss performance bonuses. According to Puckpedia, these performance bonuses get added to a team’s salary until it reaches the ceiling. If the salary cap is exceeded before and/or after those bonuses are applied, they carry over into next season and are applied to that year’s salary cap.
Stars Players With Performance Bonus Overages
Two players who spent time with the Stars this year will have their bonuses added to next year’s cap. Wyatt Johnston maxed out all of his “A” bonuses and will be awarded an additional $319,000 this season.
The second player may surprise some. Former Stars prospect and player Logan Stankoven will cost the Stars some money beyond this year.
Stankoven received a $49,500 games-played bonus before he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. The young prospect also received another games-played bonus from the Hurricanes after the trade, to the tune of $33,000.
Being on the hook for a player that has moved on from the organization isn’t anything new (hello buyouts), but it’s an interesting wrinkle in what has been a very interesting season for the Stars.
