Simulating the Boston vs. Florida playoff series in NHL 24. Will the Bruins get their revenge after blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Panthers last year?
It's a rematch of last year's first-round matchup between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers. Boston blew a 3-1 series lead to the Panthers, so you know the tension and intensity will be high in this series. The only other time these two franchises met in the playoffs was in 1996. Florida won that series 4-1.
Our first-round simulation for the Boston versus Toronto series had the Bruins losing in five games. For the Florida versus Tampa Bay series, NHL 24 was wrong on that one too, predicting the Lightning winning in five.
In real life, Boston almost blew another 3-1 series lead to the Maple Leafs, but David Pastrnak scored the goal every kid dreams about and replicates when they're outside in their driveway shooting the puck or ball on an open net. His overtime winner sent the Bruins into the second round.
Florida's first-round series was a lot less stressful as they quickly closed out their state rivals in five games.
Boston took the season series between these two 4-0 but every game except for their second meeting on Nov. 22 were decided by one goal.
The Bruins leaped out to a 3-0 series lead in this simulation before those pesky Cats won Games 4 & 5. Don't worry Boston fans, the Bruins were able to take Game 6 handily 6-0 to get their sweet revenge and knock out Florida.
Pavel Zacha was the MVP in this series scoring five goals and nine points in the six games. David Pastrnak, who was a ghost in our simulation for the Toronto versus Boston series, stepped up with three goals and seven points.
Jeremy Swayman made a name for himself with his performance against Toronto in the first round. The simulation had him outdueling Sergei Bobrovsky, as the Alaska netminder finished with a 2.12 goals-against-average and a .936 save percentage.
Florida Panthers left winger Carter Verhaeghe scored five goals in their series against Tampa Bay but was held to only one goal in the simulation.
Game 1 is set to play Monday night at 8pm EST.
