Wednesday saw a frenzy of activity in the trade market, with some notable NHL players changing clubs.

Several significant names remain in the trade market, but they might not be there much longer, with the March 8 NHL trade deadline a day away.

Here's a look at the top five.

    Jake Guentzel, Pittsburgh Penguins

The Hockey News' Nick Horwat cited The Athletic's Josh Yohe claiming the Vancouver Canucks were aggressively pursuing the 29-year-old Penguins winger. This came on the heels of TSN's Chris Johnston reporting Tuesday that the Canucks were looking at a three-team deal that would flip Elias Lindholm to the Boston Bruins to make room for Guentzel.

It's believed the Penguins were trying to get a deal done by Wednesday, yet Guentzel remains in Pittsburgh for now. They're not budging off their asking price that favors prospects over draft picks. The Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, New York Rangers and Vegas Golden Knights are said to be in the mix.

    Linus Ullmark, Boston Bruins

According to Michael DeRosa, TSN insider Pierre LeBrun reported the New Jersey Devils could turn to Ullmark as their “Plan B” if their attempts to acquire Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom fall through. The Athletic's Fluto Shinzawa noted that moving the 2023 Vezina Trophy winner could create salary-cap room to address other roster needs but could weaken the Bruins' goaltending depth.

    Jacob Markstrom, Calgary Flames

Markstrom was nearly traded to the Devils before it fell through over salary retention amid whispers that Flames ownership nixed the deal. The Devils are now reportedly willing to take on the entirety of his contract. With Noah Hanifin now traded to Vegas, TSN's Chris Johnston wonders if Markstrom will be next.

    Tyler Toffoli, New Jersey Devils

The Hockey News' Kristy Flannery indicated Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald told reporters on Tuesday that he wasn't shopping Toffoli. The two sides are still engaged in contract extension discussions. However, Julian Gaudio cites reports indicating multiple teams are interested in the 31-year-old winger.

    Pavel Buchnevich, St. Louis Blues

Buchenich is signed through 2024-25 with an average annual value of $5.8 million and a 12-team no-trade clause. However, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli posted to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday that the Blues are willing to discuss retaining part of his salary to facilitate a trade.
