July 1 is rapidly approaching, meaning free agency is just about here. Soon, we will see an array of players find new homes, many of which could be from the Bruins.
As a result, let’s review three Bruins players from this past season who likely won’t be back with the team for the 2024-25 campaign.
Matt Grzelcyk is one longtime Bruin who likely will wear a different jersey next season. As we inch closer to Monday, the Massachusetts native still does not have a contract, and given his significant drop on the club’s depth chart this postseason, a change of scenery may be best for him.

Grzelcyk had a down year in 2023-24, recording just two goals and 11 points in 63 games. While Grzelcyk struggled to produce offensively as well as usual, he will still receive interest in free agency. Keep in mind that he spent multiple years on Boston’s first pairing.
Staying on the subject of left-shot defensemen, Derek Forbort is also not expected to be back next season. It was previously reported that the shutdown defender will hit the market. Given the emergence of Parker Wotherspoon, a fellow left-shot defenseman, this is understandable.

Forbort also had a tough 2023-24 campaign due to significant injury trouble. He was limited to only 35 games, recording zero goals and four helpers. Even in what was a rough year for the veteran, he should also find a new home in the NHL, as teams will forever value big defenders who kill penalties.
Ending with the big name, Jake DeBrusk’s time in Boston feels all but over. GM Don Sweeney confirmed earlier this week that the skilled winger will hit the market on July 1. He also shared that they have not had productive talks in a whule. With this, his future in Boston doesn’t look too good.

DeBrusk will surely land his big payday in free agency, as he is a top-six winger with several years left in his prime. Several clubs, like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames, have been named likely suitors for the 2015 first-round pick. It won’t stop there, as he had the potential to be one of the hottest commodities in free agency.
