The NHL saw several players placed on waivers on Oct. 1, and one of them is a member of the Boston Bruins. According to PuckPedia, the Bruins have placed defenseman Billy Sweezey on waivers.
Sweezey spent the entirety of this past season down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Providence Bruins. In 64 games with Providence in 2024-25, the Hanson, Massachusetts native recorded one goal, nine assists, 10 points, 67 penalty minutes, and a plus-7 rating.
Assuming Sweezey clears waivers, he will once again serve as a mentor for the Bruins' prospects in Providence. The 29-year-old defenseman has a good amount of experience, as he has played in 269 AHL games over the last five seasons.
Sweezey last played at the NHL level with the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2022-23 season. In nine games that season with the Metropolitan Division club, he recorded one assist, 20 blocks, 39 hits, and a minus-3 rating.
Sweezey is the first player that the Bruins have placed on waivers this training camp. Yet, with the regular season rapidly approaching, we should certainly start to see more Bruins hit the waiver wire before opening night gets here.
