The Bruins have received a promising update regarding Elias Lindholm.

The Boston Bruins are entering the 2024 NHL Offseason with roughly $21 million of cap space. Because of this, GM Don Sweeney has made it known that he will look to add to the Bruins' forward group and scoring. The club's top need is to add a first-line center.

Due to this, it is a no-brainer that the Bruins will look to add Vancouver Canucks center Elias Lindholm if he reaches free agency on July 1. The Bruins have been connected to him since last offseason. They also tried to acquire from both the Calgary Flames and then Canucks during this season.

While the Bruins have struck out on Lindholm multiple times, it appears that there is a good chance that they will have the opportunity to target him again. NHL insider Pierre LeBrun recently wrote that he suspects Lindholm will test free agency.

Here's what LeBrun said on the matter: "I do believe the Canucks make a strong push to re-sign Lindholm, which may mean having to clear more space out. But I suspect the 29-year-old’s price will be too high for him to resist going to market. He should receive tremendous interest given the scarcity at his position and his skill set."

Heading into the summer, Lindholm is one of the NHL's top potential free-agent centers. As a result of this and being right in his prime, it would be understandable if he elected to test the market instead of immediately re-signing with Vancouver. There would be a big bidding war for his services.

There is no question that the Bruins could use a center like Lindholm in their top six. He would immediately become their best player down the middle, as he is an elite two-way center when performing at his best. We will need to wait and see if they can successfully bring in their longtime target this offseason from here.
