This was undoubtedly a franchise-altering move, as Marchand is a Bruins legend, and many expected him to spend his whole career with the Original Six club.
It certainly made sense for the Panthers to bring in Marchand. They are looking to repeat as Stanley Cup champions, and Marchand is still a star at this juncture of his career.
Heading into the Panthers' April 10 contest against the Detroit Red Wings, Marchand had two assists in his first seven games as a Panther. Overall, the start of his tenure has been pretty quiet, but he certainly made some noise against the Red Wings.
At the 16:21 mark of the contest, Marchand scored his first goal as a Panther, and it was a beauty. After receiving a feed from defenseman Uvis Balinskis, Marchand beat Red Wings goaltender Cam Talbot top shelf with a perfectly placed wrist shot. It also was an important goal, as it gave Florida a 3-1 lead over Detroit.
This was a great first goal for Marchand with the Panthers. It will now be fascinating to see how the Bruins legend builds off it from here.
