The Boston Bruins have made multiple moves this summer, and there is optimism heading into the 2024-25 season because of it. However, after losing Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, James van Riemsdyk, and Pat Maroon from last season’s roster, it is clear that they could use more depth on the wing.
Due to this, Daniel Sprong stood out as a prime potential free-agent target for the Bruins. If signed, he would have given them another option for their middle six and more secondary scoring, but now that hope can be forgotten.
After nearly three weeks on the free-agent market, Sprong has finally found his new home, signing a one-year, $975,000 contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
Daniel SprongSprong, 27, spent this past season with the Detroit Red Wings. In 76 games, the 2015 second-round pick posted 18 goals and 43 points while primarily in a bottom-six role. Needless to say, he would have provided the Bruins with a nice boost in their top nine but especially at that low of a price.
Now, if the Bruins hope to add some depth on the wing before the start of the season, they will need to explore other options. Some potential bargain forwards who have yet to be signed include Tyler Johnson, Mike Hoffman, Alex Nylander, and Max Pacioretty.
