The Bruins have a clear move to make with this defenseman.

Mason Lohrei is one of the Boston Bruins' most promising young players. The 24-year-old blueliner got his NHL career started last season, posting four goals and 13 points in 41 regular-season games. He also followed that up by recording one goal and four points in 11 post-season games for Boston.

After getting in his first NHL action last season, Lohrei has become a regular in the Bruins' lineup. He has played in 52 out of Boston's 57 games this season, where he has three goals and has set new career highs with 20 assists and 23 points.

As a young defenseman, Lohrei has naturally hit some speed bumps as he adjusts to the NHL. However, the 2020 second-round pick is undoubtedly showing off his potential and heading in the right direction when looking at his offensive numbers.

Lohrei's 20 assists are the most out of all Bruins defensemen this season. In addition, his 23 points have him tied with star Charlie McAvoy for first among the Bruins' blueliners.

With this, Lohrei is becoming a crucial part of the Bruins' defense, and the club's next move with him should be to lock him up to a contract extension. Whether it is a bridge deal or a long-term contract, this remains the case.

Lohrei is currently in the final season of his two-year entry-level contract and is eligible to become a restricted free agent this summer. However, when noting that he is becoming an impactful offensive defenseman and one of Boston's brightest youngsters, it would be significant to get him inked to his new deal before the summer is here.

In 93 career games as a Bruin, Lohrei has seven goals, 29 assists, 36 points, and 134 blocks.
